Oh Soda........

Well it's been 4 weeks on this new mission and although I have made many wonderful new lifestyle changes, my weight is not reflecting it which is quite frustrating :(

About a month ago when I reached my peak weight, I made a decision to do something about it. One of the first things I did was give up soda not only for the weight but for religious reasons (lent). For the first time in my adult life, I was successful in not giving in to my sacrifice. I just KNEW that 4 weeks of no soda would equal weight loss but it wasn't :(  I found myself turning to other things (aka soda and wine) to get that 'sweet fix'. Once I realized that, I consciously tried to back away from those things.

After a month of not a DROP of soda, yesterday I had my first Coke, from McDonald's (best ever in case you didn't know) and boy was it better than I remembered. I am going to try hard not to give back in to the sodas as I know that will not help with the weight loss. I can tell how much better my body actually felt from not drinking them the last month.

So although the scales have not dropped but 2 pounds during this journey, I refuse to give up and keep doing the exercise, cut back or no soda's, and monitoring my eating. Thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement during this journey; Lord knows I need them.
28 pounds more to go.......

Run, Walk, Run

What a beautiful weekend it was. I really enjoyed being outside. Saturday I went with my dear friend Shana to the Chowder Cook-Off on at Carolina Beach and it was nice. I also enjoyed quality time with my "Sis" Melinda and her precious son Tommy. On Sunday, before taking a boat ride at Wrightsville Beach, I did 2.8 miles intervals of walking and running.

Learning to run ...This is a new venture for me! I am doing this with two girlfriends, Alisha Styron and Alexia Winstead. Thanks to Alexia for pushing me to get signed up and started. The goal is by 10 weeks of 20 classes, and run 5 miles! Right now we train in intervals of running 2.5 min and walk 4 minutes for a little over 4 milessb I've really surprised myself in being able to do this!! It's definitely challenging but I know the good things it's doing my my heart and body!!

Those of you that have chosen to read and follow my blog are special to me and I want you to know how much I appreciate your support!
Here's to getting these pounds off!!

I know my Numbers

Thank you for those who have joined my blog.

I got my 'numbers' today and was excited to see my chelosterol, glueclose, and blood pressure in the 'normal healthy' range however my BMI and Weight (body fat %) is not (SURPRISE SURPISE) so that is my focus area. Seeing those numbers is a reminder for me.Remember my goal is to loose 30lbs before I turn 30.
I have 23 weeks which is about a pound a week or 5lbs a month... I can do this.... so HERE WE GO!
Please join in my journey!  Jessica

On a Mission

I am on a mission to loose 30 pounds before I turn 30.
It just seems like yesterday I was young, thin college girl competing in pageants and then I looked in the mirror and hit a weight I didn't like.

Working in a healthy environment that promotes health has really helped. Tomorrow we have an event called "Know Your Numbers" where for NO CHARGE we will get numbers such as: Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index, Body Fat Percentage, Glucose, and Cholesterol.
We also have a wonderful club called SEAHEC in MOTION where we wear pedometors and track our steps daily/weekly. This is an attempt to get the organization to walk from NC to CA. There are great perks for being a member of this club too!!

I am hoping to use a blog to help me share my thoughts- good and bad- about this journey and get the support  of my loved ones!
Jessica :)
